The aim of Pa Pa Paa is to increase young people’s understanding of Fairtrade and the actions they can take as consumers and global citizens to make the world a better place.
Pa Pa Paa consists of:
- Pa Pa Paa photo pack and DVD, explaining the bean to bar story of cocoa and Fairtrade chocolate;
- Pa Pa Paa website, with a wealth of free information, resources and free lesson plans for teaching about Fairtrade and chocolate;
- Pa Pa Paa LIVE! website, a webcast service for schools, bringing the children of cocoa farmers live to classrooms across the UK.
Pa Pa Paa LIVE! webcasts are themed around different topics, and your class can post questions for the Kuapa Kids to answer around each topic. Each webcast is about ten minutes long. The different webcast topics mean they work well as the basis for a series of lessons about everyday life for children in a country like Ghana. Pa Pa Paa LIVE! is also a good way for your school to enjoy and explore an ongoing link to a rural school in Ghana.
The Pa Pa Paa resources and websites are brought to you by Comic Relief and Trading Visions. Other partners are Kuapa Kokoo and Divine Chocolate.
'Pa Pa Paa' is the motto of the Kuapa Kokoo Fairtrade cocoa cooperative. It means 'best of the best' in the Ghanaian language of Twi.
Webcasts are video web events broadcast live and delivered to computers that are connected to the internet. After the live broadcast, webcasts can still be viewed online at your convenience.
Pa Pa Paa LIVE! webcasts are up to ten minutes long.
You need a computer connected to the internet, with a monitor, projector or interactive whiteboard to view the webcast, and speakers plugged in so you can hear the webcast. You can watch the video full screen.
Pa Pa Paa LIVE is an exciting new project, both for the partners involved and for the kids creating the webcasts at Great Fammis School in Ghana. We are still working on refining the technology behind the webcasts and supporting the kids in Ghana as they learn how to film the webcasts and respond to questions from UK schools.
Therefore, webcasts are currently being filmed one week before being broadcast. We are hoping to be able to broadcast fully live webcasts at some point.
You can find some quick start lesson plans on this website, backed up with comprehensive teaching resources on Fairtrade and cocoa at the Pa Pa Paa website.
You can buy Divine and Dubble chocolate at a range of local shops, supermarkets, and some Oxfam shops and online at Ethical Superstore.
For full details of Fairtrade products and stockists visit the Fairtrade Foundation website.
Encourage your students to sign up as Dubble Agents at www.dubble.co.uk and find out how they can help change the world chunk by chunk. The latest and greatest mission for Dubble Agents is Mission:Possible, which helps Dubble Agents to introduce Fairtrade to their family and friends and encourage local shops to stock Fairtrade products.
Get your school to start working towards becoming an official Fairtrade School. Signing up to Pa Pa Paa LIVE!, teaching Fairtrade in your lessons and encouraging students to undertake Mission:Possible in their community all count towards the certification requirements to become a Fairtrade School.
Why not create your own webcast about your school for the Kuapa Kids to watch? It's as interesting for them to learn about life in the UK as it is for you to learn about their life in Ghana. Why not upload your own webcasts to www.schooltube.com and then let us know about it, or post a link on the discussion forum for the webcast you are responding to.
